Softlink Education’s, Sandra Vince and Nikki Curtis were lucky enough to visit Cairns and Mission Beach in mid-May for some in person, Oliver and LibCode training events.
The week kicked off with Softlink Education/LibCode Technical Support Analyst and Training Consultant, Sandra Vince delivering an Oliver presentation at Catholic Education, Diocese of Cairns Lake Street Resource Centre.
Attended by library staff from a range of schools across Cairns, Sandra demonstrated use of Reading Lists and Tags in Oliver.
Sandra would describe herself as a ‘newbie’ to delivering Oliver v5 training. But on the day her extensive experience with library systems, in-school library needs, and large-scale training shone through with lots of valuable learning.
The next leg of the trip involved some in school Oliver training at Mission Beach State School. Teacher Librarian Kerry Green was new to Oliver v5 school library software, having used LibCode for many years.
By the end of the day Kerry had set up roll class circulation and learned a number of new tips and tricks to speed up library processes and give her more time with the students.
Time very much needed with one avid reader on the day setting Kerry the task of finding her a great new book which incorporated magic, fairies and detectives!
Another key event for the trip was the LibCode Workshop at Woree State High School. Sandra delivered the workshop to a capacity crowd of 26 attendees from LibCode user schools in the region.
Softlink Education Support Manager, Nikki Curtis was there for most of the trip, attending meetings in the area and taking in a lot of feedback from the clients visited.
Unfortunate timing of a tropical downpour meant Nikki was unable to get to the LibCode training at Woree SHS, which was disappointing, but from the look of the photos it seems like Sandra and Nikki found time for some North Queensland fun that wasn’t strictly library related!
Softlink is very excited about having Sandra’s expertise for Oliver and LearnPath for training and support. She continues her role providing support and training for the LibCode product as well with the team (COVID permitting) organising LibCode workshops in Emerald and Biloela in late Term 3.
