Kids’ Lit Quiz: Promoting Reading Engagement

The Kids’ Lit Quiz is an international, annual literature competition for students aged 10-13. It provides a wonderful opportunity for students to test their literary knowledge and helps to create a buzz about reading.

Quiz Master, founder, (and avid reader!) Wayne Mills has been surrounded by books since his childhood. With a background in teaching, Wayne started the Kids’ Lit Quiz in 1991 to address the year levels in which a motivation for reading typically dropped.

According to the Kids’ Lit website:

“Wayne is passionate about kids reading for pleasure and works to ensure that readers are challenged to read widely across a range of literature.”

World Finals 2019

The 2019 World Finals were held in Singapore on the 12th of July at the School of the Arts Concert Hall. Softlink would like to offer congratulations to the winning team, Churchill Road Elementary School, USA. Congratulations also to Palmerston North Normal Intermediate School, NZ (2nd place), St John’s College SA (3rd place), and to all the teams and students who competed throughout the year.

While in Singapore, students also had the opportunity to meet local author Andy Chua, and visit many attractions such as Tampines Regional Library (home to over 400,000 books), the Singapore Zoo River Safari, the Botanical Gardens, and the Singapore Discovery Centre (to name a few).

​UK National Finals 2019

The 2019 UK National finals will be held on the 4th December at the City of London School, and will be attended by the Sheriff to the City (who will open the event) and special guest Cressida Cowell, the National Children’s Laureate. We will be sending some of the Softlink Education team along too, and are looking forward to an exciting day!

Australian 2020 Registrations Are Now Open

10 heats are scheduled for Kids’ Lit Quiz Australia 2020, running from the 6th of March to the 28th of March, in New South Wales, the ACT, and Queensland. The National Finals will be held at the State Library of New South Wales on Friday 1st May and the winners will have the opportunity to take part in the World Final in New Zealand in July 2020.
