Last year, I wrote a blog recapping some of the new features we developed to make LearnPath even better and easier to use. Now at the beginning of the new year, I’d like to shine a spotlight on one particularly helpful function we released towards the end of last year, as well as give a preview of the next exciting feature coming very soon to LearnPath.
As an educational information curating tool, the purpose of LearnPath is to provide students and teachers with the most relevant learning resources for the subject or topic they are working on. Ensuring that all the information offered through LearnPath is up to date is a crucial step in the content curation process.
However, one of the unfortunate realities of the internet is that websites change. Linked or embedded pages that contain valuable educational information can sometimes get moved or taken down, leaving a broken link.
As the number of guides in LearnPath grows, the bigger the task of keeping track of all the linked webpages becomes. And nobody wants to spend their time manually clicking through every link to make sure they are all still valid!
To save you the time of checking links yourself, LearnPath has an automatic process that systematically checks all links across all LearnPath guides and records any URLs that can’t be verified in a report. This invalid URLs report makes it quick and easy to locate any broken links in order to correct or remove them.
The invalid URL report is an important tool that helps LearnPath administrators ensure they deliver the most relevant educational resources to their school.
An information curating platform such as LearnPath is an excellent way to organise all the educational resources relevant to a subject or unit of study in one, easy to access location. And now we’re making this information even easier to discover, by making LearnPath guides searchable.
Very soon, LearnPath users will be able to find a list of guides that contain content relevant to the topic they are researching simply by searching for keywords.
Searching for LearnPath guides can be done from Oliver, from inside LearnPath, or can even be done from search boxes embedded in external webpages such as the library website, or learning management system, creating even more points of access that connect students with the learning resources they need.
This year, we have big plans for continued development of LearnPath, including improvements to the navigation, as well as new design and customisation options that will make it even easier to create great looking learning guides. Watch this space!
