How are you finding Oliver v5?

I’m finding Oliver is fantastic, we are so happy with our choice.

What aspects of Oliver v5 do you especially like?

I’m personally absolutely loving the ease of smart cataloguing.

With our old operating system, most of our cataloguing was done by our library technician.

Since installing and using Oliver, I’ve actually been able to catalogue myself. I just use the smart cataloguing button.

Within you know, 20 to 30 seconds, I can catalogue a book and have it ready for borrowing, so I love that.

What about Softlink’s support & training services?

Softlink’s Help Desk are fantastic. As soon as I call them, they pick up the phone, they spend as long as I need on the phone. The help videos are so easy to follow that Oliver provides.

What was the implementation process like for you?

I found the implementation process extremely easy.

My time is very limited so most of my contact with Oliver was all via email, which I loved.

I did have to have a few phone conversations. But even when I did it was always quick, it was clear, it was concise.

If I emailed or I phoned somebody from Softlink, I was phoned back the same day. I was not waiting around to speak to people.

What are you looking forward to as you explore the system further?

I’m really excited just to keep using Oliver.

But we’re very excited about introducing the use of eBooks at our school.

So, through Oliver we will be adding eBooks to our library catalogues. I’m really excited about that.

I’m excited that children will be able to borrow and return books on the school holidays just through a device, they won’t need to come into school to borrow books.

I’m also looking forward to navigating around the interface and we’ve started to put some information up on our interface that’s relevant for our students. But I want to explore that further and make sure that we can use that to its full capacity.

Which points would you highlight when talking to decision makers about the benefits of Oliver v5?

I would be highlighting that the current system isn’t meeting the needs. But then I would focus on that Oliver v5 can save time.

In terms of cataloguing and all the work that our hard-working library technicians do, our library technician is over the moon that we’ve switched to Oliver v5.

She was a little nervous at the beginning about switching to a new system but she’s over the moon that we’ve switched to Oliver.

Lots of her workload has been cut in half. Just due to the simple nature of Oliver v5 and, as I said like smart cataloguing, it’s three clicks in your catalogue to book.

What else would I focus on? Just the capabilities of the system. It’s meeting the needs of today’s society for our students.

Doing something completely new in a school you know, can be a bit daunting. But I only took my time because I was actually nervous. In hindsight, I didn’t need to be.

I’m extremely happy with whole the whole thing.
