Reading lists in Oliver v5

Reading Lists are a valuable tool in Oliver v5, which library staff can use to help their borrowers easily locate specific resources.

Some suggested topics for Reading Lists are:

  1. Class assignments
  2. Special occasions (i.e. Christmas, Easter, Halloween)
  3. Popular authors
  4. Popular series
  5. ‘If you liked….’ OR ‘What to read after…..’
  6. Reading awards/challenges
  7. Reading by genre
  8. Suggested reading from teachers, e.g. Mr. Brown’s Favourite Books
  9. The Premier’s Reading Challenge
  10. CBCA (Children’s book Council of Australia) shortlist

Reading Lists are set up using Oliver’s Authority Control area and can easily be created either by scanning barcodes or by running a search and selecting the appropriate resources from a list. You can also add individual resources to a Reading List by editing the resource’s cataloguing record. Resources can be used in multiple Reading Lists at the same time.

Oliver v5 lets you sort your Reading Lists into a hierarchy format to keep them organised and easy to find. Simply click on the + icon to see more detailed information.

Another cool feature is the ability to add an image or icon to represent the Reading List. The icon will appear next to the Reading List as well as on the search results page next to each of the resources in the List. If a student clicks on an icon they will be able to view the entire contents of the Reading List.
