Established in 1985, Immanuel College is a Christian co-educational day and boarding school catering for students from Years 7 to 12.

The Resource Centre is a multi-function facility which is widely used as a learning centre for class groups, individuals, and collaborative group meetings (e.g. debating). It also acts as a leisure centre for the school, with students and staff making use of the games resources, extensive fiction collection and magazines.

Displays encourage students to read and use the centre and the staff are available to help with resource selection and search.

The Resource Centre integrates with the state of the art program in Senior School which utilises the latest technologies in a learning context. It also integrates with the MYP.

They also have a wide range of digital resources including:

Choosing Oliver v5

Helen Barber, Head of Learning Resources & Information Literacy, said digitisation potential and the importance of integration with Web 2 were the key factors that made them change to Oliver v5 in 2014.

In choosing a new Library system, it was important that it was web-based with cloud backup, accessible from anywhere, linked to mobile devices and had the capacity to integrate easily with Immanuel College’s growing collection of digital resources.

“Our previous system was functional but didn’t have the necessary elements to cope in a modern school library environment. We needed a system which could create a one stop shop for all of our resources including our digital and video resources.”

Immanuel College was also looking for a system that was attractive and interactive for students and staff, that would integrate with their college management system, and that worked with RFID as they were just about to introduce self-service kiosks.

Oliver v5 was able to tick all of Immanuel College’s functional requirements and more.

Product support and ongoing development was also important for the College.

“The fact that Softlink has an Australian base, that the company representative was helpful and supportive and that NSW schools have gone on to the system consolidated our decision to move to Softlink and Oliver v5.”

The benefits of Oliver v5

The benefits of Oliver v5 were realised quickly by the library staff and students.

“The search capability has greatly improved. The home page with the College logo looks great. The ability to customise with links, reading lists, information and so on have really helped to promote the library and its resources."

Immanuel College is also happy with the range of functionality available in Oliver v5.

“We wanted to be able to catalogue archived materials including documents and photos, the opportunity to catalogue more than library and book hire has been very beneficial.”

Immanuel College are also making the most of their Oliver v5 Federated Search.

“I have found the Federated Search option really useful, this is what I love.”

Helen said that the implementation of Oliver v5 was a seamless process, with the assistance of Softlink staff and a supportive College IT Manager.

“Use of the systems is straightforward and fairly intuitive. I think that the benefits are truly just beginning as we think of creative ways of utilising the system.”
